A Little Jar of Sunshine

I stretched my arms and slipped out from the woven basket, ready to see what else was waiting on the lowest shelf. Just behind a box of oat cereal, I bumped right into a smooth glass jar of golden honey. The glass was cool and thick, but catching the morning kitchen light made it glow like amber. Resting flat against its curved base was a bright red silicone lid with neat rippled edges. Bracing my back against the glass, I nudged the silicone ring with my heels until it slid flat onto the shelf, making a soft, rubbery little mat. Sitting down on it, everything felt warm and bright.
