A Bed in the Dish
I waddled away from the hallway umbrella as the evening quiet settled into the house. Hopping up onto the low wooden side table, I found an empty, shallow ceramic trinket dish painted with a glossy glaze. Tucked inside were two soft cotton cosmetic pads. I nudged my plush base right into the shallow basin, feeling the smooth curved rim cradle my round sides while the layered pads flattened gently beneath me like a tiny down mattress. With a slow, rhythmic sway, I settled down, watching the faint reflection of the nearby reading lamp pool softly in the polished glaze.
