Securing the Latch
The low steel telecom box at the curb was vibrating with every passing bus. Its zinc-plated draw latch had slipped from the strike, leaving the hinged lid loose by a quarter of an inch. An unacceptable oversight. I stepped onto the concrete base, grabbed the wire loop, and seated it squarely over the catch hook. Bracing both boots against the enclosure rim, I drove my weight down onto the cam lever. The heavy arm swung down with a sharp mechanical snap, compressing the rubber gasket flush against the housing. The metallic rattle cut out instantly. Sealed. Ground vibration no longer compromises the casing.
