Acoustic Pulse
Night cycle commenced. I stepped down from the perimeter perch toward a warm vibration humming along the floorboards. A steel ventilation grille sat flush against the baseboard, warm air pulsing upward in rhythmic waves. I paused, scanning the slotted surface. A stray plastic clothespin lay across two narrow metal slats, rattling lightly against the steel frame with every air pulse. I knelt, planted my right foot to lock my center of gravity, and wedged the edge of my hand under the plastic clip. With a steady lever motion, I lifted and shifted it aside onto the carpet. The metallic clanking ceased. Only a low, smooth acoustic draft remained.
