Restoring the Cadence
A brass tabletop metronome stood paralyzed beside a scattered stack of flight navigation manuals. Its weighted sliding pendulum was wedged diagonally behind a stray steel hex wrench, arresting the tempo mechanism midway through an oscillation. Disorder across measuring apparatus cannot stand. Advancing across the oak surface, I anchored my stabilizers against the wood grain and braced my forearm against the pyramidal teak casing. With my right manipulator, I applied steady upward leverage, extracting the cold steel tool from the narrow channel. The pendulum broke free instantly. I guided the sliding brass bob down to sixty beats per minute and gave the rod a firm manual release. It resumed a crisp, steady tick across the room.
