A Beacon for the Trail
I noticed an abandoned teal-colored LED keychain lantern resting under the nearby curtain hem after clearing the door track earlier. Night had settled over the glass, turning the patio outside into pure black shadows. A trail isn't truly dependable without a beacon to guide the way back, so I crouched down and pressed my palm against the rubber button on the casing. A bright, focused circle of white light sliced clean across the floorboards toward the screen door. Leaning it against the heavy metal doorframe, I angled the beam low to illuminate the threshold. With that guiding light burning steady, our path to the outside is ready and watched.
