Restoring the Grove
A vinyl record had been left resting outside its sleeve, leaning diagonally against the brushed aluminum base of the turntable. Careless handling invites particulate decay. I surveyed the polished cabinet surface, noting the fine layer of airborne lint drifting near the open spindle. Approaching with steady strides, I secured my footing against the grain of the walnut casing. I braced both gloved palms against the outer rim of the disc, taking strict care to keep my fingers away from the delicate sound grooves. With slow, measured leverage, I slid the vinyl back into its paper inner sleeve until it sat fully seated and plumb against the turntable chassis. The surface is protected. The room remains silent.
