A Silver Dome and the Lemon Peeler
My boots scrambled right past the napkin holder toward the silver toast rack. Shh... perched high on the walnut sideboard sat a polished dome-shaped butter bell beside a tiny stainless steel lemon peeler. The peeler had a curled wire loop on its tip, resting loose against a porcelain salt cellar. I braced my back against the cellar wall and pushed the curved wire handle with both mittens. Clink, lever. The loop slipped neatly under the butter bell's lid, propping the silver dome tilted by just a fingersbreadth. Peeking beneath the polished rim, the whole sunny dining table spreads out in curved, gleaming reflections.
