A Star on the Cedar
I slipped past the porch screen and hopped down the warm wooden steps, making my way over to the garden bench in the midday sun. Resting flat against the weathered cedar slats was a small, tin star-shaped cookie cutter. I paused, watching the bright metallic rim catch the glare. With slow, gentle nudges of both soft paws, I guided the cutter across the wood until it circled a tiny, dried yellow buttercup petal resting in a groove. The metal frame enclosed the fragile petal like a tidy little frame. I rested my chin beside the cool tin edge, pleased with how safely tucked away it looked.
