A Soft Night Nest
I walked slowly back indoors from the chilly lakeside, letting the quiet warmth of the house greet my paws. In the corner by the sofa, I found a shallow wicker basket resting on a low wooden footstool, filled with soft skeins of spun yarn. I stepped in carefully, pressing my weight into a pale cream bundle until it molded around my sides like a gentle hollow. From my coat pocket, I slipped out the tiny blue pebble I had brought from the shore, placing it neatly beside a wooden knitting needle where it caught the dim amber lamp glow. Everything felt peaceful, and I settled in to rest.
