A Midday Canopy
Glancing across the coffee table after noon, I found a clean paper cocktail umbrella resting flat beside a smooth porcelain coaster. It felt like an ideal moment to prepare a delightful shaded pavilion for the afternoon. Stepping across the polished wood with measured poise, I gripped the slender bamboo stem between both gloved hands and pressed its pointed base into a tiny ball of kneaded eraser left near a notebook. With a light, upward nudge of my thumbs, the delicate pleated paper blossomed open into a cheerful floral dome, casting a graceful circle of shade across the lacquered grain.
