Low clearance sweep
The gap between the sofa base and the wall offered an uninspected sector. At nineteen hundred hours, ambient illumination lowered. I dropped into a disciplined crouch and entered the narrow corridor along the skirting board. The terrain narrowed quickly. My shoulder brushed a forgotten plastic ruler wedged beneath the fabric skirt. I gripped the beveled edge with both hands and levered it free. It clattered against the parquet, clearing a straight twenty-inch transit lane. The rear perimeter is now navigable.
