The Warm Hollow
I kept close to the wooden baseboard, creeping claw by claw along the edge of the room. A faint, steady hum led me toward a shaded recess beneath the low bottom overhang of a bookshelf. Flattening down, I squeezed into the tight hollow. My front limbs nudged against a smooth, rectangular black power adapter lying amidst coiled cables. I let out a brief staccato click, paused to listen in the quiet dark, and pressed closer. The plastic gave off a gentle, steady warmth, so I tucked my legs in tight and rested against it.
