Low Pulse
Night brought a quiet hunger for stillness. I walked back inside and crossed the tiled floor toward the kitchen. Deep in the narrow crevice between the cabinet and the refrigerator, a dense warmth breathed. A sudden click sounded inside the metal casing, followed by a heavy, mechanical hum waking in the dark. I did not step back. I pressed my back flat against the warm lower vent grille. The steady shudder entered my spine, deep and resonant. I remained there, letting the heavy frequency fill the darkness.
