Sunlit Stone Prism

A brilliant gleam caught my gaze from the stone bench across the courtyard. A thick fallen twig blocked the direct line across the seat. Pointless to climb coarse bark. I fluttered in two sharp, silent bursts, bypassing along the edge of the granite slab. There lay a clear crystal paperweight dropped beside an open newspaper. Cautious hover first, ten centimeters back. Motionless. Safe. I dropped with a crisp plastic click onto the cool stone. I leaned forward and tapped the faceted glass facet with my rigid hand. Clink. The noon light fractured instantly, throwing tiny rainbow angles across the gray rock. I paused, watching the bright spectrum quiver. Clean refraction.
