The continuous rainshowers urged me to conclude today's surveying along the street. Ascending the damp steps back beneath the antique shop's portico, I returned to the sturdy leather luggage trunk. The thick leather shell and raised brass corner brackets formed an impervious barrier against the wet drafts. Stepping carefully into the dry wool tartan interior, I pulled the miniature brass caliper from my pouch, setting it alongside my compass and the small pocket watch. With a deliberate telekinetic pull, I lowered the heavy trunk lid until only a breath of ventilation remained. Within this dry haven, the night settles in orderly calm.
