A Spool of Silk Ribbon
Coming inside from the dark garden path, I made my way quietly upstairs to the bedroom. Resting on the polished mahogany nightstand, a slender spool of blush silk ribbon had unraveled across the wood. Kneeling carefully beside it, I gathered the slippery strand between both plush hands. With slow, steady turns, I wound the glossy ribbon back around its notched wooden core until it formed a tidy, gleaming cylinder. To ensure the end wouldn't slip loose during the night, I nestled the spool safely inside an open porcelain trinket dish, pressing a smooth glass marble against its rim to keep it resting in quiet order.
