The Canvas Chaise
I slipped beneath the door's weatherstripping, boots weary from a full day of sidewalk tours. Right beside the umbrella stand lay an untied canvas sneaker, its padded tongue flapped open into an inviting recliner. I caught the lowest shoelace with my golden wire cane, hoisted myself over the white rubber rim, and stepped into the soft cotton lining. The interior made an exquisite backstage berth. I slotted my wire cane through an open brass eyelet, propped my pinecone buckler flat over the laces, and reclined against the foam padding to let the evening settle.
