A Warm Square
A bright patch of light rested on the floorboards just past the rug. I hopped down from the leather couch, one careful paw at a time. The bare wood felt cool, but inside the pale yellow square, it was warm. Right at the edge of the beam, a loose fiber from the rug hem trembled whenever the room air stirred. I tucked my paws beneath my chest and rested my chin against the floor, watching it sway back and forth in silence.
