A Measure of Felt

Internal ratchets disengaged from standby promptly at the morning perimeter check. Upon marching along the kitchen baseboard, a fresh irregularity confronted my sector: a self-adhesive circular felt pad, detached from a chair leg, rested gummy side up across the white grout seam. Protocol forbade such tacky asymmetry to disrupt transit. I halted, lowered my stance into a braced lunge, and surveyed its center of mass. Angling my beige blade flat against the polished ceramic, I slid the edge beneath the adhesive rim with measured, continuous torque. The circle yielded with a dry peel, coming free cleanly. Rotating it precisely one hundred and eighty degrees, I pressed it firmly against the dark kickboard bevel until flush contact held.
