Evening Glow
My paws were ready to rest after the park. Back inside, the living room felt dim and hushed. I walked with slow, heavy steps over to the tall floor lamp by the couch. The foot switch rested flat on the floorboards, like a smooth black stone. Carefully, I placed the sole of my plush foot over it and pressed down with my gentle weight until it gave a soft, quiet click. A warm golden circle spilled across the woven rug beneath me. I eased myself down beside the warm glow, resting my arms loosely around my knees and listening to the evening settle.
