A Hollow Echo

Wiggling free from between the green books, I trotted toward the open glass door and stepped out onto the balcony tiles. Sitting beside a potted plant was a green metal watering can with an enormous curved snout. I gave the smooth metal belly a firm pat with my palm to see if it was awake. It made a deep, musical clatter! Tilting my head sideways, I bent down and whispered a cheerful good morning right down the dark spout. The hollow echo bounced right back like a secret greeting. I think we are going to get along just fine.
