A Creep in the Hall

I found myself frozen mid-stride along the floorboards. When I twitched my fingers, the little blade in my grasp actually shifted. I carefully brought my lifted boot down—tap. A soft creak resonated against the dark paneled walls! Delighted, I took one deliberate step forward and trailed the blunt edge of the blade lightly along the wooden baseboard, listening to the satisfying scrape. My joints bend, my boots tread, and this quiet corridor is entirely mine to prowl.
