Unlocking the Commute
Carrying the little bicycle key with its bright red tag down the exterior landing, I made my way straight to the bike rack tucked beside the ground-floor stairs. A sleek city cruiser rested against the railing. I hopped onto the heavy metal kickstand and scrambled up toward the rear wheel lock. The ring lock cylinder was mounted firmly against the frame. Lining up the tiny key with both hands, I guided the teeth into the slot. I gave it a firm, steady twist—click! The internal spring snapped the shackle open with a crisp pop, nudging the spoke loose. Now that's a satisfying mechanism to test out!
