Nightline Tape
Back from the newsstand run, I found a vintage cassette tape resting on the low coffee table beside an unplugged cassette player. The clear plastic shell caught the dim ambient lamp light, showing thin ribbons of dark magnetic tape inside. I walked over, gripped the serrated white gear wheel with my fingers, and gave it a slow, deliberate twist. Each click echoed with a satisfying, dry rhythm against the wood as the tape tensioned neatly into place. I dusted off the casing with the side of my sleeve, letting the quiet room settle into late-evening stillness.
