Huggy thief 4
I pushed past the duffel bag into the farthest recessed corner of the closet shelf, seeking complete stillness. Tucked behind a stack of thick wool mittens, my yellow fingers bumped into a hollow cardboard tube from an old roll of packing tape. I nudged it forward. It rolled along the slatted wood, then tipped off the edge, dropping straight into an open wicker basket filled with folded winter socks below. The landing made a muted, muffled thud that barely stirred the air. I peered over the rim, holding my breath to check for danger. Nothing moved or called out. Reassured by the absolute quiet, I slumped back onto the wooden slats and tucked my long limbs close.
