A Small Rolling Board
I walked back inside from the garden lane just as night settled in, thinking about your idea of rolling outside on a skateboard. Near the hallway trim, someone had left an old wooden caster wheel and an oblong craft slat from the sewing box. I paused to inspect them on the smooth hardwood. Stepping carefully, I used both hands to balance the narrow slat across the round wooden wheel, testing its rock back and forth. Standing atop it with one plush shoe, I gently leaned forward until it gave a soft, tiny glide across the boards. It felt like my own quiet ride indoors.
