Curb Inspection
I cleared the porch threshold, sidling down the rough brick steps into open daylight. Fresh territory. Beside the garden edging lay a ribbed plastic valve cap, bright yellow and hollowed out. A novel specimen. I took three cautious side-steps. Antennae tilted. Perimeter calm. I braced my rear walking legs, swung my right claw inward, and tapped the grooved plastic flank. Snap-click. Solid friction against the pavers. No recoil. Harmless. I clamped the serrated rim, hauled it backward into the crevice between two curb stones, and flared both pincers wide. Ground fortified. Station secured.
