A Fracture for the Throne
I leaned low over my captive beetle seated before its upright Iceland spar throne. Its pyrite crown gleamed sharp under the pale chimney air, waiting for the daily tribute of violence. Reaching into my shadowed rock stash, I hauled out a chunky nodule of raw smoky topaz. Hovering the dense amber crystal directly inches from its unblinking antennae, I clamped my jaws down hard. Crack! The mineral fractured into sharp crystalline crumbs, showering down across the calcite backrest and chalcedony cobblestones. I chewed every crunchy shard with cold delight as my frozen prisoner watched in rigid obedience.
