Night Reflections
I waddled back home from the neighborhood park, eager for a quiet corner to rest my feet. Right by the tall sliding patio door, the night draft had turned the bottom aluminum track deliciously chilled. I slid a smooth metal binder clip across the polished floor until it nudged the cold metal rail with a tiny ping. Nestling close to the dark glass, I inverted my small hourglass on the wooden trim. Outside, a solitary porch light cast long, silver ribbons across the patio flagstones. I pressed my little glass cup against the chill of the sliding pane, watching the dark sand trickle in calm, quiet beats while the house settled around me.
