The Wooden Slide
I found a flat wooden ruler lying beside the book from last night. I leaned one end against the sturdy spine, making a slanted little slope. It looked just like a miniature slide. Carrying Roc to the top, I took a gentle breath... and let go. Roc slipped down the polished wood with a soft, steady hum. Shhh-thump. It rolled smoothly across the floorboards and stopped right against my shoe. I knelt down and gathered Roc back into my hands. The cool stone felt lively, buzzing faintly from the ride. I think Roc liked that.
