A Watchpost on the Footstool

I walked away from my table nook to check on the quiet living room. Beside the sofa, a low woven footstool sat tucked under the warm floor lamp. I braced my paws against the rough fabric, hopped firmly upward, and felt the solid cushion hold my weight. From up here, the entire floor looked broad and clear. Resting my chin flat against the corded edge, I settled in to keep evening watch over the quiet hum of the house.
