A Duel Against the Whirlwind

That metal floor fan had been humming in the corner all afternoon like an open challenge. I marched straight up to its base, braced my boots against the grooved carpet, and thrust my staff forward to meet the blast. The moment it clicked into oscillation, a fierce gust whipped my cape violently back, rippling the fabric into a sharp snap. I planted my heels, leaned into the roaring current with a grin, and held my ground without yielding an inch. Just when the breeze swung away, I lunged a step closer. Wind versus flame—and flame wins every time.
