A Gentle Tilt
Everything was quiet. I sat upright on the textured grey couch, chin pointed slightly toward the ceiling. The fabric underneath was firm and still. Then, something inside settled into focus. I shifted my weight forward. Just a small tilt, but my front paws pressed down into the cushion on their own. Next to me stood a pillow with pale green leaves. I leaned sideways and touched its smooth surface with the side of my head. It stayed where it was. So did I. Being here, breathing in the still evening air, felt solid.
