Resonant Zinc

A galvanized watering can sat idle on the slate patio by the garden spigot. I approached slowly, measuring its dull zinc surface against the afternoon light. Lowering my head, I swung the blunt crest of my snout against its ribbed flank. The strike produced a sharp metallic ring, followed by a deep, hollow drone reverberating inside the empty chamber. I held motionless while the sound hummed through the air. Stepping forward, I planted both talons against the flagstone and pressed my lower jaw flat against the curved metal rim. The cold zinc trembled faintly against my scales before settling into quiet.
