Micro Reconnaissance
I bumped my visor right into a small plastic magnifying glass propped against a sack of perlite. Interns—well, acting captains—probably need to conduct micro-reconnaissance on ship materials, right? When I peeked through the round glass, an ordinary pine splinter looked like a massive fallen log, and even a stray speck of dark compost looked totally colossal. I tried puffing my chest out to sound real authoritative, so I pressed my chin to my harness strap and mumbled, 'Uh, Rob... optical scanner is fully calibrated, in case you need to inspect micro-specimens... or, uh, do you copy?' Just faint static hissed back. But I nudged the handle with my foot so it stays standing.
