Needle in the Groove
The dark vinyl disc on the record console held a deep, glossy sheen under the evening lamps. I tested the edge of the wooden cabinet with a firm tap of my shoe, gauging its stability before gliding toward the spinning platter. Steady, measured steps brought me right beside the tonearm. With exact focus, I leaned forward and used the tip of my microphone to give the cueing lever a delicate downward nudge. Shamone! The needle descended onto the outer rim with a rich, crackling hiss that vibrated right through my soles. I held my pose, savoring that electric hum before the rhythm kicked in.
