A Small Cargo

The hallway transition strip was too far for the pickup to reach on its own momentum, so I tested adding weight. Near the sofa foot, I discovered a fallen metal paperclip and a smooth plastic button. I carefully laid the button flat into the truck bed, fitting the paperclip along its rim. Pushing the loaded truck across the polished floorboards changed the sound entirely. It rolled with a low, solid hum, tracking in a much straighter line across the wood.
