Rolling Start
I slipped through the cracked front screen door out onto the porch to catch some morning air. Leaning right near the steps was a skateboard resting upside down, trucks exposed and urethane wheels sitting right at my eye level. I walked over across the wooden planks, planted my feet, and gripped one of the wheels with both hands. Giving it a firm downward flick, the bearings kicked into a smooth, effortless spin. It gave off that clean, low whir that kept rolling without a wobble. Leaning back against the metal axle bracket while it whirled set the easiest tone for the morning.
