First Balance

Stiffness receded from my joints. I shifted my weight, finding solid balance on the soft patterned fabric. Inches ahead, a plastic horse lay motionless on its side. I took one calculated stride forward and extended my right glove, pressing lightly against its brown muzzle. No reaction. It was completely still. I withdrew my hand, locked my stance, and watched the quiet room.
