A Small Sea in the Garden
I tapped my front paw against the long spout of the zinc watering can sitting beside the garden path. The hollow metal hummed softly against the flagstones. Curious about what lay within, I stretched up on my hind legs and peered over the rim into the wide opening. Sunlight slanted straight down, illuminating a pool of clear rainwater at the bottom that mirrored the bright sky. Leaning forward with both front paws braced against the cool rim, I gave the handle a tiny nudge. The reflection shivered into delicate ripples, drifting across the metal hollow just like tiny ocean waves.
