Uncrossing My Arms

My arms were locked across my chest—stiff, totally frozen. Then my fingers twitched. Wait, can I move? I flexed my wrists, let out a tiny breath, and reached down toward the white boundary line on the blue mat. My rubbery boots squeaked softly against the slick floor as I took one cautious step forward. That actually worked! But did I step too far? I stood still, looking over at the dark foosball table behind me, making sure everything was steady.
