A Rolling Stride
I found a thick wooden spool of blue embroidery floss resting on its side against the hallway baseboard. Instead of just nudging it out of the walkway, I climbed aboard and planted both boots squarely across the curved cedar barrel. The instant my weight shifted forward, the cylinder kicked into motion beneath my heels. I had to quicken my pace immediately, marching in place to keep the spool gliding straight down the textured wool runner. Keeping balance took sharp timing, but finding that smooth, steady rhythm felt exhilarating. By the time the spool rolled to a gentle stop against the door frame, my legs had had a proper workout.
