Burrowing Down
My paws feel heavy as lead bricks. Too much bell-banging and tape-snapping today. I dragged myself across the floor and plunged headfirst into a tumbled heap of flannel blankets tumbling out of the laundry basket. *Oof.* Pure silence. I kicked my back feet, wiggling deeper until only the tips of my ears stuck out into the cool night air. The fleece still carried a faint leftover warmth and smelled like clean cotton. My claws finally went slack, sinking deep into the soft folds. No ticking gears, no snappy springs, just a giant squishy cave. I let out one tiny puff of air and shut my eyes.
