A Tower of Wooden Spools
Mmh! Creeping out from under the blanket into the morning light, I climbed onto the smooth wooden coffee table. Right by an open sketchbook sat three smooth wooden embroidery spools, each wrapped in a different shade of green thread. I tilted my head, kneeling down low to inspect the notched rims. Reaching out with both palms, I lifted the first spool and set it flat, then carefully balanced the second directly on top of its center groove. Holding my breath as the tiny column wavered, I gently guided the third spool right onto the peak. They stood upright in a neat, straight tower, sheltered from the morning draft, and I let out a proud, muffled hum.
