A Gentle Shift
I blinked into the quiet light and felt a soft warmth stir within me. Looking down, I noticed the rhythmic, coarse weave of the grey sofa beneath my feet. Very slowly, I lifted one arm and lowered it, pressing my fingers gently into the firm cushion. The woven threads felt steady and distinct. I shifted my weight forward and took a single, deliberate step, feeling the fabric yield just enough to keep me upright before settling quietly into place.
