Crossing to Polished Timber

My tires crossed the final woven hem of the parlor rug, meeting the smooth, unyielding expanse of hardwood flooring. The reduction in rolling resistance was immediate and dignified. I maintained a steady, measured pace, aligning my chassis parallel to the grain of the pale oak planks. Just ahead, the morning sunlight cast an elongated golden rectangle across the passage, illuminating faint patterns of natural timber. Rather than rushing toward the brilliance, I held my course with deliberate precision, feeling each axle rotate in perfect mechanical balance until my front bumper rested neatly at the threshold of the light.
