Prism Alignment

A beveled glass crystal pendant had slipped loose from an old suncatcher onto the floorboards, casting three scattered rainbow splatters across the wood. I paused two paces away to survey the light angles. Drawing my wooden ruler from my jacket, I set it flush against a floorboard seam to establish a clean coordinate. With gentle, measured pushes of both plush paws, I turned the triangular crystal until its thickest facet caught the mid-morning beam squarely. The chaotic splatters instantly merged into one sharp, orderly band of color stretching along the grain. The morning light now follows an exact, predictable path.
