The Hollow Spiral
I wiggled out from the porch shadows onto the wide stone step. The morning air felt wide and brisk against my frills. Right in a pale patch of warmth, a tiny striped snail shell was resting on its curve. I paused, tilting my head to see if anyone was peeking out... The smooth little spiral stayed completely quiet. Taking two slow steps forward, I gave the rounded edge a gentle pat with my front paw. It wobbled in a sleepy circle across the rough slate, making a tiny scrape. When I leaned in close, it was empty and cool inside. Can this little swirl be a pocket of quiet left behind?
