Through the Paper Moon
I set the hollow cardboard roll upright onto the low tabletop and looked through its dark circle. On the other side rested a fallen silicone tea coaster with a raised honeycomb pattern. I leaned my weight forward, slowly pushing the tube closer until its rim framed the yellow rubber hexagon perfectly. When I pressed my rounded palms down through the open end, the soft silicone ridges gave way with a quiet, squishy sigh, bending under my touch before springing back to meet the cardboard edge. I rested my chin against the sturdy rim to watch.
